Hello Little Bears,
It’s been a while since the last time I’ve posted anything here. Let’s get a little bit emotional then! 2019 was a difficult year for me. I started it with a really poor mental health and then I was trying to overcome it througout the whole year. And hey, I did it. My self-confidence went from 0 to 5/10. The number of my local Polish friends went from 1 to a bunch. I can tell you now – don’t rely on having Internet friends only. They’re great but you end up having nobody to hang out with irl.
Last year I didn’t do much gamedev stuff until December. That’s when I entered 2-Buttons Game Jam on itch.io which turned out to be a lot of ‘first times’ for me. My first game jam, first try at pixel art, first 2D game (even Hungry Bucket was 3D) and first time composing ‘8-bit’ music for the game. I had one week to develop a game which uses two input buttons only. The result of that one stressful week was Christmas Space Bear vs Santa. You can play it for free here: https://kuma-bear.itch.io/christmas-space-bear
I guess you could call it a cute little game (and it isn’t my first cute little game made in less than a week). It’s a classic retro shooter made for a game jam with three keywords that we could use: comet, arm, rope. At first I wanted my Space Bear to avoid incoming obstacles by firing a rope and swinging on it but I ended up with a prototype so bugged that they could probably hire me at Bethesda. So after 48 hours I scratched my first idea and came up with the thing that you can see above.
It was a tiring week. I made a lot of mistakes, my eyes became red, I bumped into someone’s car at a parking lot. Oh yeah, I had to do all of this while working full-time as a corporation slave at my office. It was worth it though. I enjoyed making pixel art and I want to stick to it for all of my upcoming game jams while working on a big 3D project in the meantime.

Let’s make games together, oniichan~
Talking about plans for the future, I want 2020 to be the year when it all kicks off. I’m not hoping to be a pro by the end of it but I still hope something amazing will be on the way. I want to participate in one weekend game jam each month. I bought a new microphone and a webcam (and I’m waiting for delivery right now :D) because I want to shamelessly promote myself on Youtube and Twitch (alright, Twitch is actually fun for me too). Aaaaand I’m currently thinking of a new Steam-worthy 3D project. It’s all in my head right now but I will try to keep you all informed about it. The only thing I’m sure of is that there are going to be Slavic pagans, vikings, mythological creatures, waifus and husbandos.
Let’s have amazing 2020!
